All imports into the United States must be covered by a Customs Bond per Customs regulations. The bond is a guarantee to Customs that the importer will abide by all the laws and regulations in the import process including the payment of any and all duties and fees.
There are two bond types to meet Customs requirements. The first is a “single entry bond” and as the name implies, the bond covers only one specific import clearance. The other is the “continuous bond” which is good for 12 months and covers all imports during the 12 month period in all ports of entry in the United States. The continuous bond is the most economical bond for repeat importers. Bond values are dictated by Customs guidelines with reference to shipment value and potential duty obligation.
