Hi I'm Diann,
My drapery work reaches from Kelly’s Island, to Marion, Westerville, Alliance, Erie Pennsylvania and
even Florida.
I have been a member of the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Window Covering Association of America (WCAA). I am a past president and vice president of WCAA, serving two year terms for each office. I also participate in monthly meetings for the Greater Cleveland Drapery Professionals (GCDP). Both of these organizations have a lot of sharing so we can keep up on the latest trends, treatments, techniques, and custom standards of our industry.
I began sewing at the age of 7 when I joined 4H and was a member (and president for a year) until high school graduation. I took all the projects that had anything to do with sewing and interior design, and was chosen by the judges to compete at the Ohio State Fair twice. I signed up and attended classes with my mother, who had to keep up her Home Economics teaching certification, to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and took all the advanced sewing classes for 4 summers.
I graduated from BGSU where I took classes in everything that had anything to do with sewing, textiles, interior design, and my degree included business with marketing. After graduation, I worked for several places that sold custom draperies before starting my own business in 1981, "The Draperie," located in Lorain County Ohio. At that time I bought an existing drapery work room and worked with the former owner for 6 weeks, learning how to use all the equipment. I have owned the company ever since.
The business has been relocated three times from 6815 Lake Ave. Elyria, OH to 1925 North Ridge Rd. Lorain, OH, where I owned the building, then to its current location at 9288 Brian St. North Ridgeville, OH.
Read on to learn more about what it is that you can expect to find here at The Draperie.
