Fred Y. McConnell American Legion Post 51 in Concord, NC is in the 4th division of District 17 of the American Legion Department of North Carolina. The American Legion consists of 55 departments. There is one department in each state as well as additional departments in the District of Columbia, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. There are 5 divisions in North Carolina. Each division is sub-divided into 5 districts, each led by a Commander and a Vice Commander.
The American Legion is the world’s largest veteran organization serving veterans of the armed forces of the US who served during wartime periods. The US Congress gave the organization its corporate charter in 1919. It was founded in Paris, France at the close of WWI. Veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada, Operation Just Cause in Panama, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Global War on Terror are now included in the American Legion. We aim to help veterans, widows, children, and fellow citizens throughout the nation. We hope that you will join us and help us support our American veterans.
