New Hope for Metastatic Prostate Cancer
Prostate Specific Membrane Antigens are proteins that target sensitive receptors on prostate cancer cells. When attached to radio isotopes with short half lives they can deliver short-range lethal doses of radiation to tumors regardless of position in the body. This treatment is effective in many advanced metastatic prostate cancer patients significantly reducing tumor mass, slowing growth with few side effects reducing PSA levels, while sparing normal tissues and organs.

PSMA-directed radionuclide therapy, also known as PSMA-directed peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PSMA-PRRT or PRLT), is a new targeted therapy for patients with advanced prostate carcinoma. PSMA (prostate-specific membrane antigen) is a protein receptor that is richly present on the cell surface of prostate carcinoma cells. This is used for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Nuclear Medicine.
