What is SudoscanTM ?
SudoscanTM is a galvanic skin response test that evaluates the sympathetic function of the Autonomic Nervous System via Sudomotor (or sweat) dysfunction. Sweat glands are innervated by the small sympathetic C-fibers and sudomotor dysfunction is one of the earliest signs of an abnormality in the autonomic nervous system.
SudoscanTM is a quick 3 minute test that is both non-invasive and easy to perform and provides immediate and quantitative results that are reproducible.
Why use SudoscanTM?
SudoscanTM tests the autonomic nervous system. This is done by evaluating the small C nerve fibers which can either innervated or degenerate depending upon sudomotor
(sweat) function.
How SudoscanTM works:
SudoscanTM is an FDA approved galavanic skin response test. When a patient places their hands and feet onto the renewable sensor plates, a low undetectable current is applied to the hands and feet. This process allows the skin to act as a capacitor and extracts Chloride (Cl-) ions and Hydrogen (H+) ions which pass solely via the sweat ducts. SudoscanTM measures the electrochemical reaction between the Cl- ion and the anode and the H+ ion and the cathode. SudoscanTM then records the conductance related to pH and the ion concentration supplied via the sweat glands that are detected by the electrodes. This mode of testing allows for accurate measurements that correspond solely to sweat gland function.
