AKC Events

Conformation Shows

This is a process of "elimination". Dogs first compete against others of their own breed. One dog in each breed is named Best of Breed and goes on to compete at the Group level. There are seven Groups. The First place dog in each Group (Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding) goes on to compete for Best in Show. One is chosen BEST IN SHOW and this dog at the end of the show remains undefeated.   In 2024, our shows returned to Newnan, Georgia  with three back-to-back conformation shows held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.   The dates for 2026 are are October 16, 17, & 18th, 2026.   This Superintendent is External link opens in new tab or windowFoy Trent Dog Show.

FAST CAT®

Sure, you think your dog is fast. But have you ever wondered how fast?

Fast CAT® – which stands for Coursing Ability Test – is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure,  which is three white plastic bags  attached to a line which is moved by a lure course operator to keep it just ahead of the dogs.  The course is totally fenced in for safety and has electronic timers to record how fast the dog runs.  The time is converted into miles per hour.  Points are accumulated and titles are given.  All dogs can participate in Fast CAT®, whether purebred or mixed breed & THE DOGS LOVE IT!

Although it is a relatively new sport, its popularity has spread like wildfire. No wonder, according to one AKC official, “The Fast CAT® provides a terrific opportunity to introduce new participants to the world of AKC sports as one of the few events where all that is needed to compete is a dog’s natural instincts.”

NEWNAN KENNEL CLUB sponsors Fast Cat events at the Coweta County Fairgrounds in March.  The next events are in March 2025 and  will include  both Fast Cat and Lure Coursing.  For more information and to enter these Fast Cat and/or Lure Coursing  contact:
